For Better Results Make This Facilitation Resolution
Effectiveness increases when facilitators embrace this simple but powerful mindset.

Five words.
Would you believe that’s all you need to potentially revolutionize your facilitation?
If not, set your skepticism aside and try them on for size:
“Attend to what is happening”
I’d probably add “and invite others to do the same,” but for the authors of this quote that likely is implicit.
This is all it takes. Sort of lol.
The mindset embodied in these five words is the basis for almost all of the sound advice offered in Advanced Facilitation: Facilitation with a Gestalt Focus, a powerful 65-page book from Trevor Bentley and Howard Boorman.
I’ve previously referenced Bentley’s thinking, as well as reviewed one of his other books I greatly value, Facilitation: Provide Opportunities for Learning.
In future posts, I’ll explore and incorporate other concepts and thinking from the book. For now, I encourage you to contemplate how to leverage these five powerful words in/for all of your facilitation efforts: attend to what is happening.
What might you need to start doing?

What might you need to do more of?
Whether you make doing so a resolution or simply resolve to do so with greater intention and attention, the payoff likely will be significant.
